Ooh, The Interestings is one of my all-time faves! I read it when it came out, when I was in my 30s--now I'm thinking I should go back and read it as a 40-something, to see if its hits differently...
I think your comments re Vile Bodies are valid - I read a few years ago and equally wanted more meat from that plot. I also LOVE the Ochuko & Hannah transcript format - really fun & fresh. So much book review content is so polished (not bad it’s just the way it is) so to have such an informal dialogue is a real treat bc it carries so much emotion! And makes the reader feel like we’re in the group chat which is always a win.
I’m pleased you’ve come round to the UK Intermezzo cover bc I did think you were coming on too strong w your hate for it last month 😉
Love the Interestings!! Read it on my honeymoon, after finding it on a bookshelf in Costa Rica - have such strong memory association with that. Also apartment is joyous
I'm like preserving Intermezzo till next year. I want to savour it on my shelf. but expectation sounds right up my alley. I love post grad adulting narratives. lmk if you have other good recs
I so admire your self-control! FWIW, I think Intermezzo is such a fall book. On the off chance that you haven't read A Little Life yet, I think you'd enjoy that. Also, heard good things about The Group by Mary McCarthy but haven't read yet. P.S. I adore your writing <3
A little life blew my mind but it literally DESTROYS you. So do not read it on a destination wedding, like I did… After - and only after- you have read it, read Andrea Long Chu in Vulture, which is destabilizing if you’re loved it, but probs one of the best pieces of lit criticism I’ve ever read…
Pandora! I’m such a fan of your work. Totally agree on both fronts. Saw a stranger reading it recently on the beach in Spain and wanted to go up to them and warn them that this is certainly NOT a light beach read 🫠
HI! THANK YOU! Did you hear about the theatre production in London? I bought tickets and then sold them on when I started reading the reviews!! Too much - even for me… (and I love James Norton)
I loved "Good Material! I laughed so much while reading it. It was just so hilarious. Maybe it's because I spent 12 years living in the UK, so I really connect with British humour.
omg your apartment is a dream
haha thanks girl. big barbie dream house vibes
Love ya xxx
Indeed, it's a beautiful apartment, her style reflects her newsletter and interests well. Quite remarkable and it's no hyperbole either.
I love that you think it reflects the newsletter !
Rather strongly! Looking forward to your next edition of "As Seen On" no hyperbole either, stay creative and curious 🤓😍📚🔖💯
Thank you SO MUCH for this gorgeous conversation. You're an icon and I feel very grateful to be able to call you a friend 🥺️
