In your opinion, do you really think it's for the company culture or another reason (like real estate)? I'm curious to hear your thoughts!
I work in tech and I suspect real estate is the biggest issue, but some leaders may have a mix of motives like exerting control and then those who truly do believe it's better for culture... It's just hard for me to swallow. I think it's antiquated and doesn't align with tech's 'innovative, flexible' image. If anything these companies should be thinking of ways to foster more intentional in-person activities (or incentives to go in) and conferences a couple times a quarter/year. And I'm not anti-office or anything, I've been cool with going in once or twice a week for the last few months, but anything other than that feels like a waste of time.
I think it's a mix of both things. most company leaders started out with the five days a week in office routine, and so possibly have that attitude of, if I can, so can you. I do think that being in office is better for company culture and productivity. real estate also ahs a lot to do with it. if they're paying so much for property, they want to see it used. but its hard. my work place is super flexible but and I'd be really upset if I had to go in all week
While no one deserves to fear for their safety, perhaps if Elon Musk wasn’t such a conspiracy-feeding ass-hat he wouldn’t require so much security. Mouth tape might help, and getting locked out of his X account….
I don't mind her, but a lot of my friends don't like her vibes. it's not a specific thing she's said or done I think, just the vibes which is funny. I don't feel the same, but somehow I get it
Really smart hire for I-d mag - Betteridge has been killing it with Ssense’s social content, so I’m guessing that social game will improve exponentially
I was actually surprised that Willa left High Snobiety to go to Hearst. As someone with a traditional media background (I used to work as a magazine editor), I’m not sure I would leave a new media platform like HS to go to Cosmo/Seventeen as it would feel like a step back. But, who knows, maybe the deal was super sweet and the resources at HS aren’t great. Nonetheless, I’m excited to see what she will do, but feel she has her work cut out for her 😉
deal was probably amazing and she strikes me as someone who's motivated by the hard stuff, you know? because it really is going to be a challenge to bring those brands back to relevance. but if she does it, it'll be ICONIC
I love these updates so much. Reader request: can you do a special issue focused on the books + adjacent industry? Would love to hear your take on THAT Sally Rooney article in the Guardian (trash-talking tiktok trends that definitely make her $$$) 🤓
The Brooklyn Beckham product is sooo good! Got my hands on it a few months ago—I was skeptical as a celebrity brand hater myself and was actually humbled by it. The packaging is INSANE and they def put some $$$$$ and craftsmanship in it, but I’m skeptical how it’ll perform in retail pending on what the price ends up being 👀
i’m excited about willa bennett at seventeen and cosmo! mostly just because i’m hoping that means cosmo is expanding because i’ve wanted to write for them since i was a teenager, and because she also went to sarah lawrence
And I'm really looking forward to see what she does w those properties. I don't they'd bring her in- and I dont think she'd take the job- if there wasn't a very compelling vision
love to see the mr beast drama 💅 waiting patiently for his downfall
we love a hater :)
Also excited for him to go away.
Honestly I’m here for the teen smartphone ban 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
good to know!!!!
if David Beckham is excited then so am I
word!
If my company follows Amazon on this 5-day a week BS, I'll revolt.
the people ARE revolting. it’s v scary.

I live near Nike headquarters and their return to office mandate (now four days a week) has ruined my commute. It suuuuuuuuuuucks.

I’m so curious what people’s (your/her age) opinions are re:Flo Pugh

Oh nice!! Haven’t popped into the book club yet, but I love the travel guides among a lot of other things. Just feels actually genuine.

Haha only on the treadmill (so boring but I listen to podcasts)
