Re: fur, I feel like being made of dead animals explains the appeal. If the contemporary economy is forcing us all to basically operate like hunter-gatherers, scrounging up whatever resources we can out of its hellscape, then why not play along with it? While the actual practice of wearing farmed mink is anti-Paleolithic, the image of wearing pelts definitely is.
Also thanks for surfacing Kyla Scanlon's article! Adding that to my essay TBR and bumping it to the top!
Every time I see Crime Junkies anything, I hear Ashley saying “full body chills”. I listened to Crime Junkies a lot in 2019/2020 (pandemic days) but stopped shortly after. The growth is WILD! Had no idea she wrote a book…
Honestly, it’s only going to get more with the spread of Ozempic. I do think the skinny coverage is as rife in the States tho as it in the UK—potentially more so, the National Enquirer, People, US Weekly, all love to talk about weight
Free newsletter?😭 oh so Christmas came early. I spent yesterday just going through your old posts that are still free cuz I missed it. I’m happy that you’re getting paid for your writing because you’ve more than earned it but this is a gift to me 😭🙏
Am I the only one who thinks wearing vintage fur is far preferable to faux fur (i.e., plastic)? Even when I was a vegetarian I would wear my mom’s vintage furs 🤷🏻♀️
quick math on the return to office raise shows you basically are breaking even (assuming you drive to the office)
$36/day for parking * 4 days/week * 42 weeks (assuming generous PTO, sick leave, and holidays) =$6,048 which is probably about what you net after taxes. math may be a little difference if you are somewhere with good public transit, or if you like to buy your lunch at the office. but interesting to consider that this is more just the cost of RTO rather than a true raise.
I think the fur pendulum is swinging back because there's been enough environmental pushback on vegan leather (plastic) and it's starting to extend to faux fur (small plastic tubes that shed). I think it's also tied into the Old Money and Quiet Luxury aesthetics and Slow Fashion movement and people are starting to want The Real Thing when they can get it because it is a status symbol (I'm wearing real fur AND I'm saving the environment by not shopping plastic fast fashion). There's a weight and shine and movement to fur that plastic can't replicate. Plus it holds up better over time and feels luxurious.
A free newsletter from Ochuko?! Name a better way to start the week.

Gosh I love when my readers think of things I never could!
Well it helps to read a newsletter full of interesting ideas about the world, and yours is truly one of the best!
British tabloids 🤦♀️ honestly they could have run a million different stories.
They always chose violence 😂
🔥🔥🔥 as always. I feel like Idris as James Bond needs to happen…
Gosh it’ll never happen now
amazing round up - and couldn’t agree more with ASAP and Tate McCrae sections lmao
Glad you agree. There’s a way to spon con and there’s a way not to got it
i chuckled because my husband drinks Celsius and I drink Alani and never the two shall meet
also i hope none of that funding goes towards Flowers publishing another book 👀I said what I said
Wait I’ll admit I’m kind of obsessed with that show. My bf hates it he thinks I’m crazy. What’s your beer with her ?
Never listened to the podcast(or maybe like one episode I can’t really remember)! Her novel was poorly written and shoved full of tropes

The growth is wild. And I can hear it in her voice too 😂
It is… not good 😵💫😬

I agree. I think no one does it like Daily Mail though. It’s wild. But low key they are saying what everyone is thinking 👀
Wondering what As Seen On peeps make of this news: https://www.businessoffashion.com/news/media/edward-enninful-launches-media-and-entertainment-company/ I'm so intrigued to see what he'll do next!
Wrote about this last week! I have no idea. But he’s such a creative genius I think it’ll be great
you're so ahead of the game! yes snap, super intrigued

Agree. Also I’m not sure there’s a way for fake fur to look good 🥹
No I’ve heard quite a few people say this! Particularly those who work in fashion
yes, I understand that this is the appeal/reason for the resurgence of vintage fur.
Why are court room looks always the chicest… and ASAP has convinced me to invest in raybans again
He’s already earning his keep 😎

Love your thinking. Love your math even more. I’m sure those offices were crunching some numbers too. Better than companies that offer nothing though
def! breaking even is better incentive than being in the red!
The way I almost spit out my tea when I read your Facebook thoughts lol
But am I wrong? 😂
Not at all
noooooo not noosphere
Dead on arrival
