Love these takes, all of them! But I'm here to say the Graza craze needs to end. We shouldn't be cooking with olive oil over high heat, nor should olive oil be stored in plastic! Marketing genius.
Absolutely, Olive oil shouldn't be used for cooking with high temperatures and shouldn't be offered for sale or stored in plastic bottles, don't know about Graza but love beautifully harvested Extra Virgin Olive oil 😍💯
Re: nostalgia - during the 90s it was all about nostalgia for the 60s. See so many of the Gap's tv spots of the time, the rise and return of hippie culture, Woodstock '99. Maybe a pushback against the rise in technology at the time and how it was quickly permeating people's lives (the internet itself, then email and instant messenger)? Sooo many parallels with today. Also, how interesting that this kind of nostalgia - to simpler times - is basically being used as aspirational branding/marketing. It's in our reach if we just drop our phones..
Re: morning shed - shown also in the first episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but she finished her shed, and if memory serves did a light round of makeup, so she could get back into bed before her husband woke up. She also applied her creams and tools at night after he went to sleep, her perfected appearance like a magic trick. Funny, again, how things change but stay so much the same.
love love your insights kirby. I think especially in a. weird election year... nostalgia has a different grip on culture. and the marvellous mrs maisel! I didnt even thing about but great call! I remember watching that first episode and being like girlllll
Such a good point about fractured society - late 90’s it was Bill Clinton’s indiscretion and impeachment, y2k worries, and then a different kind of stolen election with those hanging chads in Florida. Nostalgia as a self-soothing technique? Honestly I owe Bill for my love of capri pants. And OOF I had the exact same reaction to that episode! As I watched with my LED mask on and two different serums and moisturizer on my body skin alone…hehe
Yes, that Maisel scene, where she wakes up by light coming in precisely angled blinds because she can’t use an alarm clock (will wake us her husband) was amazing. In one of the later seasons they showed her mother doing the same thing, clearly a lesson taught at home!
I actually don't mind Sofia's Virgin Suicides homage with her daughter - when you're an OG it lands differently from the millions of tumblr copycats, also Romy is now the same age as Kirsten Dunst at the time of the film's release (she seems fairly grounded for a teenage nepo baby, and more self-aware of the nepo baby thing than some grown adults)
my brothers friend was hired as a consultant right out of college and has gone 4 years without being put on a single project. he just makes his salary and does whatever he wants.
at first he didn’t but then it started to get boring & also not benefitting him because he wasn’t getting any connections/possible references since he wasn’t working with anyone else. i just asked and apparently after 4 years he got moved from nyc to ohio for a long term project so he’s officially working.

there was an article on modern retail a while ago about the microplastics and graza 👀
thank you for validating my concerns about graza!

Maybe Clarke declined? People are so *weird* about her and she maybe doesn’t want more judgment/attention about her dating life?
true. and honestly such a double standard. really enjoy her
The mid 2000's mall nostalgia hits.....
