some of my thoughts re: google ranking instagram content. i've seen a lot of "make sure all of your captions use seo keywords!" posts and think that's a terrible idea. i wouldn’t recommend overhauling your entire caption strategy. first, there’s no promise posts will show up more. we have no idea what this will look like yet. personality-forward / weird / short captions oftentimes make more sense for the post experience on platform—and you still have a better chance of engagement on platform than google results, so optimize for that. if there’s a way to lightly optimize for seo, sure go ahead. but captions are one of the few places brands still have to infuse FUN and it’d be a shame to turn those into robotic seo keyword nothingness.

This is great info. The struggle for authors is having a caption strategy in the first place—not just, “Here’s my book.”

Sanibel told me how she optimizes her captions on her video content here: https://leighstein.substack.com/p/the-wedding-album-effect

On TikTok, I'm still using short captions + hashtags

A great letter! I chuckled at the beauty + foodification images. It’s becoming a bit much. I shared in a letter last week images of a Crumbl deodorant collab and like… I don’t want to smell like cookie crumbs. Enough is enough.

That 'micro retirement' is ... a vacation every 12-18 months. Do The Youths not know what a vacation is, and that a week isn't 'micro' anything?

Interesting to see Sydney go for Lolita inspired considering Sabrina already did very recently. Two blond S-named stars doing the same thing…..Will Sydney have the guts to admit it was intentionally modeled after the movie?

Love a free post 😘

On Gen Z reporting—I think every generation goes through a media hazing where they are obsessed with coining phrases and weird habits. For millennials we won’t live down apparently not being able to afford a home because we spent all our money on avocado toast. Oh we’re also lazy and self entitled.

Loro Piana has been doing some pretty sketchy things for some time now. Not only in its Italian supply chain, but also in its sourcing of vicuña in Peru. Sadly, their reputation and "prestige" are never tarnished.

Pinterest posts popping up in Google searches is so frustrating to me that I will usually add "-site:Pinterest.com" to my searches.

I have a feeling IG popping up in google searches is going to be just as annoying.

God those headline screenshots in your second point... wtf is soft-saving 😭 It just makes me cringe.

Also, I agree re Sweeney. I have no idea what her personality is like but I also think she would be a great bond girl? She knows what sells and is making it work for her which I think, power to ya.
