Late to this convo but I totally agree with you. I once read something from a wise soul on Reddit that (at least in the US) everyone has a prenuptial agreement -- and if you don't write your own, yours just defaults to your state laws.
If I'm going to enter into a legally binding agreement, I prefer that my partner and I set our own terms! Of course, there's always the option of being in a relationship and not getting the government involved for those who dislike the idea of romance + contracts.
In reality prenuptials "for literally everyone" are a further deterioration of our society, don't necessarily understand why couples who supposed to be in love with each other undermine this very precious thing in the first place, prenuptials also heavily undermine trust, companionship and emotional fell well engagement within a marriage making prenuptials effective a precursor to sabotaging and eventually destroying real friendships and marriages all because it's a monetized relationship which was disguised as love. Not really something I'm wild about. 🤔🤓💀💯
Don't be sorry or feel sorry only because it's how I feel, more importantly what the divorce rate tells us in a decade or two and how many actually divorced because monetary considerations trumped considerations about love, trust once destroyed can't be repaired especially not when a prenup already signals certain trust issues or insecurities. These numbers will tell us how society will fare in the future and it's not up to me, but the usual common sense of what's truly important in life, especially a life well lived without artificially undermining the good rare stuff in life. Thanks for your reply, kindly appreciated 🤓📚🔖💯
It’s really kind of smart of moon juice as they’re capitalizing on the sleepy time Mocktail trend where you would add tart cherry juice by just putting the cherry right into the magnesium
I signed up for Emily Gould's Book Gossip so fast, and would also love to see your takes on publishing here! (I'm a former publishing employee, current freelance editor and writer)
Oooh immediately signed up for Book Gossip - thank you! I need to know if readers in other cities are also experiencing a growth in bookish themed bars and cafes? (One of each just opened in Glasgow and Edinburgh recently, and I also just came across a cafe in rural Ireland also leaning heavily on Book-tube/tok inspired decor.) Like, it’s noticeable but also feels like old news?
It’s not old news it’s developing news. So fascinating. It’s sometimes hard to tell if sth is tending or if like one or two instances of that thing happened- in this case book themed bars etc
I wish it were Emily Guild (or you, actually!), but it’s Emily Gould who is writing it 😆 and that does not really bode well for much besides a lot of click-bait opinions imho.
wait… you’re making me realize that maybe i am into sports after all! do we think the culture shift of athletes as celebrities is new?? as a midwestern girly, i grew up exposed to football and baseball and knew the players, but not like the way we engage with athletes and their families today.
Yeah it’s really cool and would love to know more about how the athletes are enjoying this. Cuz I guessed they signed up to be a softener kind of celebrity…
Feels a bit socially but also professionally constructed with a mild bout of boredom towards "the usual celebrities" which represents a space which literally gets now filled, supplemented or exchanged by sports personalities, lifestyles and commercial ventures, making it essentially a new revenue stream for some or many, the jury is still out, yet again it doesn't feel like a warm relationship, flip flopping maybe, but future proof, fool proof and unending commercially exciting? Maybe not, it simply feels at times "para-social" but hey stop, isn't that always the case? If so, there's a case to be made why people adopt something like talking about the socially constructed surroundings of sports, without being invested into the sport themselves? So in the end it's business instead of passion, but just like the prenups discussed above, all this doesn't sit well for a meaningful two-way longterm future street of desires...food for thought, maybe a hot dog in the stands without any celeb in sight? I guess for many this represents a nightmare in the making and not forgetting all these white trainers everywhere...🤔🤓😥💯
Extremely here for the prenup discourse (I have one!) — needs to be talked about and normalized more.
Should definitely be talked about more!

This, exactly! And set those terms from a place of LOVE instead of contention (if, god forbid, it comes down to divorce).
