I'm in a huge Facebook parenting group (over 290,000 members, moistly women) for high school/college/after college issues. Someone posted that 'Southern College' article which quickly turned contentious and the thread was deleted. I don't know how anyone can saw there is less politics in the South, given the abortion issue. I think people are more 'polite' about it, maybe, or just avoiding the issue (because they can always fly home to their blue state if they need to, right?). People also had a lot to say about the stats needed to get in, and were hoping that the influx of Northern kids would raise the education level. Warmer weather year round and Greek life also have an impact.
weather and greek life huge impact. I think it's not that there arent political issues, but the way people interract with those issues are very different than in northern, more liberal states. also curious, what was the tension about in the group. why did he thread get taken down?
I think it was abortion rights, because the group is supposed to be non political. But there were also mentions of LBTQ/Trans issues in the South, I'm sorry I didn't mention them as well.
There is often a subtle (or not so subtle) difference in the way some Northern and Southern women communicate, and some people do get personal with various issues. As my kids get older and I kind of age out of the group because I've seen the same issues multiple times, I sometimes find it interesting in a cultural anthroplogist kind of way to see what people say and how they say it.
In London, the wonderful Chanté Joseph and her friends have started Strangers In The City. It’s an events/meet up side project for people who are feeling lonely and want to do fun and interesting things together IRL. They do cooking classes, pole dancing lessons, and all sorts of fun stuff and they sell out. You just need enthusiastic, energetic hosts like Chanté to set a good vibe and it works. No to AI buddies.
I'm pretty sure Spicewell is going to end up in the same position as Olipop and Poppi if they keep making statements like, “following an ancient recipe recognized for its anti-inflammatory and circulatory benefits.” Undoubtably that isn't FDA complaint. lol
I went to a private high school on the Northeast coast and SO many of my classmates went to big southern state schools - my thinking was cause of Greek life, football/sports culture, warmer weather. This was about 10 years ago.
I’d never heard of Spicewell and honestly I’m not mad about it. Vegetable salts sound like something nobody needs. You’re definitely not the problem lol
The part that stood out for me was Lili from the series Riverdale and her launching her new skin care brand. Nobody likes to talk about their problem or admit their loneliness as you stated. This is because, you’re reminding them of that. Obviously, id love to attend a cheaper institution with more fun around. You are a very good writer and I enjoyed every bit of it. Well done sweetheart ❤️❤️❤️
How much do we think Greek life is contributing to Northerners coming south for college? The bama rush effect, maybe?
huge huge impact. like juxtaposing campus protests in the north vs like greek life bama rush. the later seems more fun depending on who you are
I LOL’d at the former CEO of Shake Shack becoming CEO of Weight Watchers. One of these things is not like the other!
LITERALLY WHAT I WAS THINKING. Very strange

I put that worm in the ear🫠

Ughh every city needs this !
Now I’m not a chef or food scientist or anything, but is “vegetable-enhanced salts” just… gentrified boullion? Even a basic Knorr cube has turmeric.
this is funny cuz thats what I use to cook! but those have weird chemicals definitely not healthy lol

people just be saying things...
H&M's Global Creative Director used to work at Sephora, so it makes some sense. I noticed Douglas has made a similar shift as well with newer stores.
interesting. wonder how they'll expand the concept in the next year.
The shared Seth Cohen crush makes so much sense for us
my love for that man omg
<3
We're also SUPER curious/nervous about 'STACK serving the so-called "creator" vs. the writer. NO THANK U tbh
I think we're all scared but I guess we'll just have to see. glad you're here!
The last line in this newsletter took me out! Because same 😂
Like ikr 😂
I would love to know the name of the podcast about idealism, youth and Gen Z if you can share it!
I don’t remember it! I would have linked it :(
don't know how I got here but that was just excellent. TY.
Fun you made it here !
Turning solitude around not for theweeper ...but keeperof tradition.

I guess it’s been going on for a while. Makes a lot of sense tbh
